Some students will show up to class with a large package of cheap pastels ignoring my supply list request to bring good pastels even if it means only bringing a dozen. I know quality pastels are expensive but you get what you pay for and cheap pastels will mean unsatisfactory results! Start with a small affordable collection and slowly build from there.

Here’s my latest pastel demo video. I only use eight pastels, eight GOOD pastels – in this case Schminke. Good pastels means saturated colour and lots of pigment. Check it out!

Now you see there’s no reason not to have a few good pastels!
